Guys!! It’s not fun when the item you paid for has something wrong with the packaging or the thing breaks after you open it. So you now have to check the retailer’s refund process. If you bought this item at Costco, you’d be happy to know that the Costco Return Policy process is easy. You don’t have to go through the hassle of explaining if you don’t like the product or don’t need it anymore.
What is Costco’s Return Policy?
Costco will accept returns within 90 days (from the date the member received the merchandise)
Costco Return Policy Electronics.
Televisions, projectors, major appliances (refrigerators over ten cu. ft., freezers, ranges, cooktops, over-the-range microwaves, range hoods, dishwashers, water heaters, washers, and dryers), computers, touchscreen tablets, smartwatches, cameras, aerial cameras (drones), camcorders, MP3 players, and cellular phones can all be returned to Costco within 90 days of the date the member received the merchandise (return details will vary by carrier service contract).
Many of the products above provide access to technical help and warranty information through our Costco Concierge Services specialists. Here is a list of things that qualify for the promotion.
Costco Return Policy Diamonds
If a member returns a diamond weighing 1.00 or more, they will be issued a Jewelry Credit Memo only after presenting the original paperwork (IGI and GIA certificates). Our Costco-trained gemologist will check for fakes within 48 hours.
Costco Return Policy Cigarettes and alcohol
Wherever it is against the law to do so, Costco will not accept the return of cigarettes or alcoholic beverages.
Products with a limited useful life expectancy, such as tires and batteries, may be offered with a product-specific limited warranty.
Costco Return Policy Special Order Kiosk and Custom Installed Programs
Except in the case of warranty repair or replacement due to failure to meet specifications, custom product(s) created to our member’s particular and unique requirements are not returnable or refundable.
Costco Return Policy Without Receipt
The original receipt is not required for returns at Costco. Just head to the customer service counter with your Costco membership card (or number) and the item you’d like to return. Your shopping history will be searchable, so they can locate proof of purchase immediately and process your refund.
In a bold statement, Costco guarantees that consumers will be “completely satisfied” with their purchases or receive a full refund.
Costco stands by its word by allowing returns of unused items at any time, with or without a receipt.
Used items and those missing their original packing can also be returned to Costco.
Costco accepts returns for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:
- Change of heart
- Accidental purchase
- Received incorrect item
- Delivery refusal
- Missing item (replacement only)
- Lost shipment
Because of these stipulations, Costco has one of the most lenient return policies in the retail industry.
On the other hand, they have a few picky rules they stick to when deciding what to refund.
Items returned to Costco without all their original packaging materials or that show signs of consumer abuse will not be accepted.
They also won’t take back perishables much over their expiration date, such as bread three weeks old and moldy.
Simply put, they won’t accept returned perishables that have been opened or past their expiration date.
A Costco membership is also required for returns.
For returns on behalf of others, you’ll need either the original receipt or the buyer’s membership ID (if you make a lot of returns for a particular member, talk to them about adding you as an approved person on their account).
With an expired membership, you cannot have another member refund an item you purchased.
If your membership has lapsed and you wish to return an item, you will either need to renew it or keep the item.
The store and the self-service return portal will be closed to you.
To take advantage of the return policy, you must pay for a membership, even if you bought the item the day before and haven’t even opened the packaging yet.
Costco Return Policy Food
When shopping at Costco, is it possible to return items? Of course, Costco accepts returns on groceries. If you are unsatisfied with your purchase of food from Costco, you may return it at any time for a full refund, regardless of whether or not you have opened the package. You can produce fruits and vegetables, even if you’ve already eaten them.
Costco Return Policy Clothes
In most cases, Costco promises complete happiness with its products. If you have any queries or concerns about a product, a Member Services associate would be pleased to help you at any Costco location*. Having the original packaging or the receipt can speed up the return procedure, but they are not required.
Costco Return Policy Vacuum
Costco accepts vacuum returns at any time and for any reason. If you need to return a vacuum cleaner, you can do so without the original box or receipt, but you must include all of the product’s components. Brands like Dyson and specialized vacs like the iRobot Roomba are covered by this policy. See below for information on Costco’s return policy for vacuums.
Return Policy: Vacuums
A corporate customer care representative stated that Costco’s standard return policy applies to vacuums. That means you can return a vacuum to Costco for any reason and at any time. We confirmed this information by visiting Costco stores in California, Iowa, Virginia, and Wyoming.
Vacuum Return Requirements
All vacuums, including Dyson and iRobot Roomba models, can be returned – even if the packing has been opened, the void has been used, you no longer have the box, or you’ve misplaced the receipt (as previously stated) (as previously reported). Just be sure to bring all the items and accessories with you when returning.
For vacuum warranty information, Costco’s website recommends customers contact customer service. Costco may prohibit a return if the item needs replacing due to normal wear and tear. In other words, Costco can deny your return if you seek a free replacement for a vacuum you bought years ago and have used regularly. However, Costco’s return policy is generous and will accept most returns without trouble.
Vacuum Refunds at Costco
Store purchases made at a Costco warehouse can be returned for cash or store credit, while online purchases can be refunded to the original mode of payment.

- Refrigerators (more than 10 cubic feet)

The Costco Concierge Services warranty will match the manufacturer’s warranty in the second year. You can contact the manufacturer or Costco Concierge Services to learn more about your coverage options.
Here you can find details on how to return a large appliance purchased on Costco.com.
*At its discretion, during the second year of the warranty, Costco may choose to repair, replace, or refund the purchase price.

Even if you’ve misplaced the receipt or opened and used your Airpods, you can send them back for a refund. Costco’s website indicates that while a receipt and the original packaging are helpful, they are not required to execute a return.
You can return your AirPods to Costco for a full refund within 90 days after purchase. All electronic items are subject to this policy; however other items are not.

How Do Costco Returns Stack Up?
Some customers might be dismayed that Costco doesn’t have a unique, more generous holiday return policy. The store’s dedicated customers, though, won’t have a problem with it. Returning items to Costco is simple and can cover almost anything.
The 90-day return window is also far longer than the 15-30 days offered by many of our competitors, who specialize in electronics. Therefore, Costco does not need to change its return policy over the holidays; you may return almost any product to them at any time of the year if you are unhappy with it.
How to Make a Return at Costco.com
Using their website to send back a purchase is a breeze. The shipping and handling cost will also be refunded if you return an item purchased online. Is there any better news? The cost of mailing the item back to Costco will be on them.
- Log in to your account at Costco.com.
- Select Orders & Returns.
- Locate your order and click the “return items” button next to the order that contained your return.
- Follow the prompts to complete your return or replacement.
- Feel free to print out the return label right away or arrange for a pickup if that’s more convenient. An email with specific instructions for returning a more significant item will be sent afterward.
Returning Products Bought At A Store
The only place to return anything purchased at a Costco warehouse is at the original store location.
You’re not restricted to returning it where you originally purchased it; you can take it anywhere that accepts returns.
It is not possible to return in-store purchases online, though.
Costco accepts the following types of payment:
- Visa credit cards
- Debit/ATM Cards
- Mobile Wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay)
- Costco Shop Cards (gift cards)
- EBT cards
The absence of credit card issuers other than Visa is striking.
Visa is a partner of Costco.
Under the terms of the deal, Costco’s point-of-sale terminals will only accept Visa credit cards.
Credit cards issued by Mastercard, Discover, or American Express will not be accepted as payment. Of course, any debit card will do.
As soon as you enter the store, make your way to the returns counter.
It makes no difference whether or not you have the receipt with you.
An employee at the return counter will handle your exchange or refund.
You should return perishable items as soon as possible to avoid having your return rejected due to excessive delay.
(Costco must have procedures to prevent customers from returning food they forgot in the fridge for an extended period to get their money back.)
Returning Products Bought Online
You can return your online purchase to the store or send it back in the mail.
These are some of the online payment options:
- All Visa Cards
- Discover Cards (Including JCB and Diners Club)
- Most PIN-based Debit/ATM Cards
- Costco Shop Cards*
You can’t use your EBT card, cheque, or mobile wallet to buy stuff from an online store.
Online purchases made with a Discover card cannot be refunded in-store.
In either case, you can get a credit to use in the shop.
Simply navigate to the “Orders and Returns” section of your account after logging in, and from there, select the items you wish to return and follow the on-screen instructions.
If you look for the right transaction, you’ll be able to get a breakdown of the purchases made at that time.
To return an item, just check the box next to it.
Mailing back an unwanted sweater or headphones is one thing.
Refunding a water heater or refrigerator is a different story.
Having Costco come and take up your extra-large item is something you’ll need to arrange in advance.
Once you have processed the return, you will be given instructions on when and where to schedule the pickup.
The freight company will return the item to your house the same way they delivered it:
- Curbside: Have your item dropped off outside in your driveway or near the curb? You can select a delivery window that requires a signature or not.
- Threshold: Freight delivery is where the delivery driver barely crosses the threshold into your home to ensure your item doesn’t get left outside. Access to home and signature required.
- White Glove: High-end freight delivery services include unpacking and placing the item in the general area where it will be installed and inspecting it to ensure that the product arrives as expected.
Nonmembers Returning Gifts
Can a person not a Costco member return a gift they were given?
A lack of a Costco membership will not leave you with an unpleasant present.
If the non-member has the buyer’s member ID, they can return the item.
They will receive a credit that can be used however they like in the store.
Refund For Your Costco Membership.
Your yearly Costco membership is fully refundable for up to 364 days after purchase.
There is no consideration given to the frequency of membership use.
If you are unhappy with the service, you can get your money back within the first 364 days if you request it.
After a year, your subscription will automatically be renewed.
After that time has passed, your subscription for the prior year cannot be refunded.
But if you change your mind about renewing, we’ll give you your money back (although you may as well use it a couple of times first).
