What Is Walmart Return Policy?
Following their standard return policy, customers have three months to return an item purchased from Walmart. This is what the online shop proclaims.
Except in the cases specified in the exclusions section, you have 90 days from the date of purchase to return or exchange a product at a store, at no cost using the mail.
You can return items in-store, for free by mail, or via a scheduled pickup from your home.”
Walmart Standard Return Policy
Almost all of Walmart’s merchandise can be returned for a full refund. Your Walmart.com order history will show the latest date for which you can request a refund or exchange. However, we recommend keeping track of all manufacturer packaging and your receipt for a minimum of 90 days after purchase.
Returns, refunds, and exchanges are not accepted for anything purchased from anybody other than Walmart or Walmart.com.
Returning items purchased on Walmart.com
Walmart accepts returns or exchanges within 90 days after delivery for most items sold and shipped in-store or online. Please check the exceptions listed on our company’s Return Policy page to be sure your purchase qualifies for a return.
Extended holiday returns
In general, the return period for items with a short return window (less than 90 days) that customers purchase or receive between November 1, 2021, and December 25, 2021, begins on December 26, 2021. The number of sellers actually participating in the market is unpredictable. See the Return Policy for details.
Damaged or defective items
You can return an item purchased on Walmart.com by mail for a refund or replacement, or bring it into any Walmart store for a refund if it is damaged or defective.
Walmart Financial Services
Express Bill Payments and fees associated with Walmart Financial Services products are non-refundable.
Walmart Marketplace Return Policy
While Marketplace Sellers’ return policies may vary from Walmart’s, we’ve established minimal return requirements to ensure a uniform experience for our customers. Make sure your return meets the requirements by reading the following.
- 14 days for electronics and luxury items
- 30 days for other items

There is typically no cost for returns. If you have any questions about your order, you can either click the Return Policy link on the product page or get in touch with the Marketplace seller directly.
Return policies vary for Marketplace items classified as Hazardous Materials. A Walmart will not accept their return. If the item you bought was classified as hazardous materials, you can either get in touch with the Marketplace vendor yourself or ask us to put you in touch with them.
Batteries, flammable liquids, computers, and even some cosmetics and household goods may be considered hazardous materials. The rules for hazardous products issued by the Department of Transportation might shed light on what kinds of materials fall into that category.
For returns of hazardous materials (like Lithium-ion batteries) or freight (such items that weigh more than 150 pounds or have special dimensions), please get in touch with the Marketplace seller directly to work out the details.
When you return a Marketplace item to a store
If you want to return an item, please do so to the Marketplace Return Center so it may be processed.
When dropping off a return at a shop, please allow up to 48 hours for the tracking information to become accessible.
In the event that you need a refund, you may expect it to be processed within 48 hours of the Marketplace Return Center receiving your returned item.
When you initiate a return for a Marketplace item online or through Walmart Customer Care
When the return shipment is scanned by the carrier, we will provide a refund.
It may take the carrier up to 48 hours to update the tracking information on their website.
When you return an item purchased from Walmart.com, you can get a credit back to the same card you used to make the purchase. Regular and freight shipping, as well as any shipping surcharges, are examples of outbound shipping costs that aren’t necessarily refundable upon return.
Debit or credit card
Refunds to debit and credit cards may take up to 10 business days to appear in your account.
If you paid with a debit or credit card, you’ll get your refund on the same card. The original card is lost or stolen and cannot be verified by scanning the receipt, a refund will be sent to a Walmart credit, debit, or prepaid card.
If you paid with a debit card, your refund will be sent to the same card or in cash, whichever is more convenient.
Return in-store items without a receipt
Present a valid, government-issued photo ID in lieu of your receipt. Your return will be approved if the details you provided match those already in our safe database.
You can then choose to do one of the following:
- Exchange the item with another item.
- Get a cash refund if the returned item is less than $10.
- Get a Walmart shopping card or gift card if the returned item is equal to or more than $10.
- If available, send the item to the manufacturer for repair.
Walmart Return Online
Your return label will be emailed to you after you initiate a return. Either the email or the Order History page will provide you with the option to print your label.
- Select Account.
- Select Purchase History.
- Locate the order with the item you want to return.
- Select Order Details.
- Select Start a Return.
- Place a checkmark next to the item(s) you wish to return.
- Select Continue.
- Select the reason you’d like to return; select Next.
- Select if you would like a refund or a replacement of the item; select Next.
- Add comments (optional).
- Select Save.
- Repeat steps 6 through 9 if you’re returning more than one item.
- Select Continue.
- Select the method you’d like to use for return. select Continue.
- Review your return. If everything is correct, select Submit.
You can send things back in four different ways. As soon as you begin, you will be presented with the items.
Schedule for pickup: Have the item picked up for return.
Return at Walmart store: To return an item to the store, simply print the barcode shown on the screen or bring your return email with you.
Return by mail: You can return an item by printing the label, taping it on the package, and delivering it to any US Post Office or FedEx location.
Drop off at FedEx location: Follow the on-screen instructions to print the return label, affix it on your item, and drop it off at a FedEx location.
Walmart Return Policy exceptions
Even with a receipt, Walmart can limit or prohibit returns and exchanges. All returns without a receipt must go through a refund process. Walmart can reverse refunds for lost items if the seller can establish delivery or if it happens regularly. All judgments about refunds must respect the laws that are in force. The store manager decides whether to accept a return. Managers can’t accept ineligible returns. Store managers might refuse to take back harmful items.
Walmart.com accounts can be closed if our returns policy is breached or misused or if there is fraud.
The 90-day rule has exceptions. All exclusions require a receipt. Here are 90-day rule exceptions. Exceptions to the receipt rule are listed below.
Must be returned within 14 days with a receipt to obtain a refund or exchange:
- Any store will take back prepaid wireless cell phones that are not broken.
- Most postpaid (contract) cell phones can only be returned in good condition to the store where they were bought. There may be other requirements set by a contract.
- Unlocked phones that have been opened or used can only be exchanged for another item of equal or greater value if a receipt is included.
Must be returned within 30 days with a receipt to obtain a refund or exchange:
Verizon postpaid (contract) mobile phones, camcorders, digital cameras, digital music players, e-readers, tablets, laptops, PCs, TVs, portable video players, video game hardware, GPS devices, audio systems, hoverboards, electric bicycles, electric scooters, and radio-controlled cars.
Motherboards, RAM, and graphics cards must be returned with a receipt within 30 days. Contact the manufacturer after 30 days for warranty help. Used drones must be traded within 30 days.
Never-used drones are refundable—Return Walmart Protection Plans and Applecare+ within 30 days of purchase. Cancel Applecare+ or Walmart Protection Plan.
Must be returned within 60 days, with a receipt, to obtain a refund or exchange:
- Prescription glasses
- Prescription contacts
- Hearing aids
Must be returned within 90 days, with a receipt, to obtain a refund or exchange:
Freshness guarantee: With a receipt, you can get money back on produce, fresh flowers, meat, bakery, deli, dairy, and frozen* items. Start a return on the Walmart app or at Walmart.com/returns. You may not have to return the item.
Not 100% satisfied with a Walmart Private Brand item?: We’ll replace it or refund your money. All you need is the package.
*Note: Perishable online It can’t be sent back through the mail. To start a return and get your money back, go to Walmart.com or the app.
Tires: Any store with an Auto Care Center will take back brand-new tires that haven’t been mounted or put on the car within 90 days. Stores that don’t have an Auto Care Center can’t take back tires.
90-day automotive battery guarantee: If a battery fails a quality test within 90 days of purchase, the original buyer can get a full refund or a replacement. Only the original buyer can do so under the warranty if the battery needs to be replaced after 90 days.
Refund or exchange
Photo prints, personalized items, and photo products (e.g., blankets, mugs, calendars): Get in touch with us at walmart.com/help or visit a store within 90 days. The postal service will not accept your return.
Home & garden equipment: It can be returned within the 90-day grace period. Before you get back in there, ensure there’s no gas or anything else that could catch fire. Mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, generators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, compressors, and pressure washers are all examples of such tools. AC Freon should NOT be drained. Please go to the product page to determine if an item purchased from Walmart.com can be returned via postal service.
Funeral products (e.g., caskets, coffins): Returnable within 90 days of purchase for a full refund if damaged or faulty. Unless the item is defective or damaged, we cannot accept returns on any purchases, new or secondhand.
Major appliances (e.g., large refrigerators, ranges, washing machines): Products that have not been used and are still in their original packing may be returned within 90 days of delivery for a full refund. To initiate a return, use the Walmart app or navigate to walmart.com/returns. Stores do not accept returns on large appliances.
Toilets, toilet bowls & urinals: They are exchangeable for a full refund if returned within ninety days of purchase (if unused and in their original packaging). Toilets, urinal bowls, and toilet seats can be returned if broken, flawed, or damaged.
Must be returned within one year, with a receipt, to obtain a refund or exchange:
All perennials, trees, and shrubs.
Please note that the following items cannot be returned for a different item but must be exchanged for the same or a similar item:
- Available, pre-owned UAVs in 30 days*
- Activated and unlocked within 14 days* for wifi use
- You can return or swap used or opened air mattresses and air beds for a full refund during the first 90 days*.
- I used long-lasting medical gear within the last 90 days* (e.g., crutches, walkers, slings, mobility scooters, pulse oximeters).
- All unopened items in these categories can be returned for a full refund if they are returned new.
Walmart return policy without receipt
Without a receipt, you can still return products to Walmart.
Having a receipt will make the return process much smoother.
If you don’t have the receipt and wish to return an item, you’ll need to provide a valid form of government-issued identification.
Remember that the retailer will only accept a return if the ID provided matches the customer’s record in their system.
Before making a return, check with Walmart to see if the data they have on file matches the one on your identification.
We can only issue a cash refund if your purchase price exceeds $25.
Most refunds are issued in the form of gift cards.
The return needs to occur within the 90-day grace period.
Employees will use information based on what you tell them and other information based on the item in question, even if it may be difficult for the retailer to pinpoint exactly when you bought the item.
If you use your credit card at the store, the staff can view the details of your purchase.
If you have the buyer’s email address or phone number associated with an online transaction, you may easily trace it back to them.

There is a 30-day window to return electrical items purchased at Walmart.
Most devices purchased from Walmart, including electric scooters, hoverboards, and Verizon postpaid mobile phones, can be returned within 30 days. Additionally, you have 14 days to return any other mobile device purchased from Walmart.

If your purchase breaks during the first 90 days, please send it back.
Even if you don’t have the original packaging, you still have 90 days from purchase to return a damaged or defective product for a full refund. All the more so for opened items. Electronics and prescription glasses have trial periods of 60 days (30 days).
Walmart return policy without box
Read Walmart’s standard return policy for the most up-to-date information on returning an item purchased without its original packaging. Even though Walmart’s typical return policy says you need the box and all accessories to make a return, you can usually return or exchange an item even if you don’t have the original packing.

Walmart return policy after 90 days
No matter how long it’s been since your last visit to Walmart, you always have two primary choices. Your return can be processed in-store or via shipping, depending on your preference, and the process can be started online at Walmart.com. Remember that you must return any Walmart purchases you made in person.
Policy after 90 days
Start a return at a Walmart store if you have a Walmart account or use the Walmart app.
- You can return an item or items by going to your account history on Walmart.com or in the Walmart app (you will also be asked to select a reason for the return)
- To obtain a return barcode, click “Return to Store.”
- Before sending in your tax return, double-check the refund summary.
- For verification, please check your inbox. Don’t forget to bring the item and the email you received as a confirmation to the store.
- A return barcode may not be issued if the 90-day window from the date of purchase has passed. If that’s the case, you’ll need to start the return process at a physical Walmart store.
You can return an item to a Walmart store by following these steps:
Just go on over to your local Walmart (you do not have to go to the original store of purchase)
Make your way to the counter where returns are requested and inform an agent that you wish to make a swap.
The worker will then show you the remaining steps.
After 90 days, if a manager or supervisor must be contacted to approve your return, they may ask you to explain why you want to return the item.
A Walmart gift card or store credit may be issued as reimbursement if your return is approved.

What Is Walmart Holiday policy?
The 30-day return policy for most gadgets bought between October 16 and December 25 officially begins on December 26. There is a 14-day return policy for in-store purchases of postpaid wireless phones. Within 14 days of receipt, you may return your postpaid wireless phone purchased from Walmart.com.
